We aim to foster a culture of learning, creativity, and collaboration, empowering these young women to shape tomorrow's world through their passion, curiosity, and dedication to S.T.E.M.

Why the Apiary Foundation?

The base of the word “apiary” comes from the Latin word for bee – which is “api”. The proper pronunciation of apiary is :  ei·pee·eh·ree.Apis mellifera” is the Latin word for honey bee. This first word is the genus “Apis” meaning bee and the second word “mellifera” means honey bearing. Apiaries are man-made, to create an inclusive environment for bees to thrive within a contained area.

Candace was an avid lover of bees and was planning to have a small apiary at her new home in Hendersonville, NC. The Craven Apiary name was chosen to honor both her love of bees and nature, as well as cultivating inclusive spaces for all.
